About Us

Youth Peer Education Network (Y-PEER Somalia) is a groundbreaking and comprehensive youth to youth initiative; the network was established  in September 2009 by peer educators in Garowe, Somalia., it is a civil society, non-profit making  and  non-political organization and  also  an active  member of  Global Youth  Peer Education  Network.  This partnership paves the way for experience sharing and enriching the activities of our organization. Y-PEER Somalia intends  to  promote a healthy  life style and  to  empower young  people to  make  responsible  decisions.  Y-PEER Somalia operates all states of Somalia and the Banadir Regional Adminstration.

We are dedicated to the protection and economic empowerment of women and young men and women, with a multifaceted approach that includes addressing traditional harmful practices such as FGM, Child Marriage, GBV and promoting gender equality, and advancing sexual reproductive health among adolescent and youth. Additionally, Y-PEER SOMALIA also focuses on promoting vaccinations to ensure community health and well-being.

Y-PEER SOMALIA’s activities span across major cities and regions of Somalia, including Mogadishu, Bosaso, Baidoa, Garowe, Galkayo, and Kismayo, ensuring that communities across the country benefit from our programs and initiatives.

Y-PEER SOMALIA engages youth through outreach campaigns at universities, youth centers, schools, and internally displaced persons (IDP) camps. Additionally, we leve rage social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, and WhatsApp groups to disseminate information, share resources, and foster dialogue among youth.

At Y-PEER SOMALIA, we are committed to building a future where all individuals, regardless of gender, can thrive and contribute to their communities. Through our comprehensive approach, we strive to create a more inclusive and equitable society for Somalia’s youth.

Y-PEER SOMALIA is committed to safeguarding the rights and well-being of women and girls, advocating for legal protections, and providing support services to survivors of abuse and exploitation.

Through education, skills training, and leadership development programs, we empower women and girls to become agents of change in their communities, fostering self-reliance and resilience.

Y-PEER SOMALIA provides comprehensive information and resources on sexual reproductive health, including family planning, STI prevention, and access to reproductive health services. We empower young people to make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health, promoting healthy behaviors and attitudes.

Y-PEER SOMALIA advocates for the importance of vaccinations to protect individuals and communities from preventable diseases. We work to raise awareness about the benefits of immunization and address misconceptions and barriers to vaccination uptake.

Y-PEER Somalia’s Programs and Initiatives include:

  1. Entrepreneurship Bootcamp Training: Y-PEER SOMALIA offers entrepreneurship bootcamp training to beneficiaries, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to start and manage their own businesses successfully.
  2. Startup Grants: Y-PEER SOMALIA provides startup grants to eligible beneficiaries, especially young girls and women vulnerable to sexual exploitation, to support them in launching their business ventures and achieving economic independence.
  3. Youth Centers: Operating youth centers equipped with ICT labs, Y-PEER SOMALIA offers digital training programs for youth, preparing them for employment opportunities in the digital economy.
