Founded in September 2009 by a group of visionary peer educators in Garowe, Y-PEER Somalia is a pioneering youth-to-youth initiative. As a non-profit, non-political civil society organization, we are a proud member of the Global Youth Peer Education Network. Our collaboration with this international body facilitates the exchange of experiences and enhances our organizational activities.
At Y-PEER Somalia, we are committed to fostering healthy lifestyles and empowering young people to make informed, responsible choices. Our operations extend across all states of Somalia, including the Banadir Regional Administration, ensuring nationwide reach and impact.
Our Mission
We are steadfast in our mission to protect and economically empower both women and young individuals. Our comprehensive strategy tackles harmful traditional practices such as FGM, Child Marriage, and GBV, while simultaneously promoting gender equality and advancing sexual and reproductive health among adolescents and youth. A key focus of our efforts is advocating for vaccinations to safeguard community health and well-being.
Our Reach
Y-PEER Somalia’s presence is felt throughout major Somali cities and regions, including Mogadishu, Bosaso, Baidoa, Garowe, Galkayo, and Kismayo. Our programs and initiatives are designed to ensure that communities across the country reap the benefits of our work.
Engagement and Outreach
We actively engage with the youth through targeted outreach campaigns in universities, youth centers, schools, and IDP camps. Our use of social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, and WhatsApp groups serves as a conduit for information dissemination, resource sharing, and fostering dialogue among the youth.
Our Commitment
Y-PEER Somalia envisions a future where every individual, irrespective of gender, has the opportunity to thrive and contribute to their community. Our holistic approach aims to cultivate a more inclusive and equitable society for the youth of Somalia.
We are dedicated to protecting the rights and welfare of women and girls, advocating for legal protections, and offering support services to survivors of abuse and exploitation.
Empowerment Through Education
Our educational, skills training, and leadership development programs are designed to empower women and girls to become catalysts for change within their communities, promoting self-reliance and resilience.
Health Education and Advocacy
Y-PEER Somalia offers extensive resources and information on sexual and reproductive health, covering family planning, STI prevention, and access to reproductive health services. We enable young people to make knowledgeable decisions regarding their sexual and reproductive health, fostering positive behaviors and attitudes.
Vaccination Advocacy
We champion the critical importance of vaccinations in protecting individuals and communities from preventable diseases. Our initiatives aim to heighten awareness about immunization benefits and tackle misconceptions and obstacles related to vaccine uptake.
